Ice Age Trail – Holy Hill Segment in Hubertus

Activities: Birding, Hiking, Snowshoeing, Wildlife Viewing
Filter:

This 6.8-mile segment of the Ice Age Trail runs from Donegal Road on the south to County Highway E on the north. Although it passes close by the Holy Hill Basilica that gives it its name, there are only a few places along the trail where breaks in the dense foliage provide views of the striking structure atop a glacial kame (except in winter, of course). Intersecting trails can take you to the basilica and its grounds, however.

The glacial terrain is characteristically rugged and hilly and glacial erratics (boulders left by the glaciers) are a common sight. Several spur trails offer vistas of the surrounding landscape. North of Hwy 167 the trail winds through grasslands and a pine plantation, as well as between agricultural fields.

The trail connects with the Pike Lake Segment on the north and, with a short on-road section, to the Loew Lake Segment on the south. Follow the yellow Ice Age Trail blazes.

Leashed dogs are allowed on the trail.

Trail access points with parking are at Shannon Road, Holy Hill, and on Donegal Road with a short on-road section of trail. See the Ice Age Trail Alliance interactive trail map.
