Winter fun in Milwaukee County Parks!

Were you prepared for winter when it finally showed up? I haven’t been up on skis myself for a number of years but I discovered a good place for it the other day. The large woodland at Brown Deer Park is kind of like an island, surrounded by a sea of snow-covered lawn, perfect for a long looping cross-country ski course. The snow-covered lawns are in turn surrounded by the park road, which is perfect for someone like me who just wants to see it all!
It’s a fairly easy course as cross-country skiing goes, mostly level with just a few gentle slopes. There is a second trail, designated for skate-style skiing, that makes a convoluted set of loops around the golf course across the road. I didn’t venture out into that wilderness, so most of my photos are from the classic ski trail.
If sledding is more your style than skiing, Curry Park is an excellent choice. My grandchildren can testify to that. I even took a couple runs myself!
If none of these activities sound appealing, just enjoy the vicarious pleasure of the photos! From my perspective, it is the parks themselves that are the real stars of the show. How fortunate we are to have them for our recreational pleasure!
