Veterans Memorial Park in New Munster

This former gravel quarry encompasses 335 acres of land around a 39-acre lake. It is being developed with an emphasis on sustainable living education and recreation. Veterans Memorial Park Lake is appropriate for fishing, scuba diving, and non-motorized boating. There are over five miles of maintained walking trails throughout the park, meandering across sprawling meadows, through woodlands, and past wetlands. In the winter the hiking trails become cross country skiing trails. Hunting is allowed in the west section of the park.

The Veterans Memorial can be reached on foot or by car at a separate entrance to the park. Amenities include picnic tables, portable toilets, and a dog park.

Veterans Memorial Park is adjacent to the DNR-administered New Munster Wildlife Area.
