A patch of brown-eyed Susans along the trail.

This 41-acre conservancy area, located in north-central New Berlin, is the perfect antidote for the business and industrial park that surrounds it. The site encompasses wetlands and woodlands within a primary environmental corridor. A stream runs through it and there is a meadow along one edge adjacent to the trail. A single, broad, well-mulched, mile-long loop doubles as a hiking trail in summer and cross-country ski trail in winter. Although the trail head is squeezed between apartments and an industrial park, it feels surprisingly secluded once you leave the parking lot. It is popular with dog walkers who don’t always keep their pets on a leash as required.

Stigler has been identified by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology as an ebird hotspot, with 103 species recorded.
