This 127.4-acre Village of Caledonia park is considered a hidden gem in the Racine County park system. It consists largely of undeveloped marshland along Hoosier Creek with a single 1.1-mile trail leading straight into the property for a 2.2-mile round-trip hike. A boardwalk provides access to often-flooded sections of the trail.
A wide variety of birds and smallĀ game call the refuge home, including shorebirds, herons and cranes. Nicholson has been identified by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology eBird.org program as a birding hotspot, with 229 species recorded.
