Lake Twelve/Biehl Nature Preserve in Farmington
Located in the Town of Farmington, this 283-acre preserve is adjacent to 53-acre Lake Twelve. Partially forested with yellow birch and tamarack, the property provides public access for non-motorized boating. A Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources property managed by Ozaukee Washington Land Trust, it includes a pier, an access road and a parking lot. Fish include Panfish, Largemouth Bass and Northern Pike. The preserve features an elevated kame that overlooks a beautiful view of the lake. Pets on leash welcome. Although it doesn’t appear on the map (below), there is a trail from the parking lot (find the trailhead next to the kiosk) leading uphill through the woods. At the top of the hill, which is a glacial kame, you’ll find a nice view of the surrounding countryside. In summer the foliage blocks the view of the lake. The trail continues down the north side of the hill to the entrance drive, making a nice loop.
Identified by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology as an ebird hotspot.
