Engel Conservation Area in Muskego
This 155-acre City of Muskego preserve site is managed for open space preservation, wildlife habitat, and outdoor education. It is the largest of several conservation sites in Muskego. There are 29 wooded acres, 31 acres of restored prairie, and 87 acres of wetlands within the property. Five acres of oak woodland that was historically oak savanna contains some bur and white oak trees that are likely over 200 years in age. A 67-acre area on the northern half of the property is part of the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) Wetlands Reserve Program. This project restored hydrology by plugging drainage ditches and creating several shallow ponds.
Approximately four miles of hiking trails thread through the site with connections to Plum Creek and Settlement subdivisions to the north, and the Muskego High School athletic fields to the northeast.
There is a parking lot and porta potty. No other amenities.
