Conservancy for Healing and Heritage in Franklin
The Conservancy for Healing and Heritage is a non-profit organization that owns and maintains a 36-acre property developed with a chapel, garden and almost two miles of woodland trails on glacial terrain. The property overlooks ten-acre, 35-foot deep, spring-fed Kopmeier Lake, the only glacier lake in Milwaukee County.
Along the lake trail, there are two observation decks with views of Kopmeier Lake and the surrounding forest. A staircase provides access down the kettle slope from the upper Trail to the lower Trail, then winds back up to the top in a picturesque loop. Resting benches are positioned along the walkway. A pier and covered deck extend out into Kopmeier Lake.
The Garden surrounding the chapel at the entrance to the grounds is designed to allow the natural environment to reduce stress. The Chapel is open Monday – Friday, 8am to 5:00pm. The Conservancy offers programming including classes and lectures.
Finding the Conservancy can be a challenge. It is located behind the Reiman Cancer Center and shares the parking lot. Drive in and all the way to the back of the lot.
